A political movement inspired by art - Shepard Fairey is the artist that comes to mind. He was most recently recognized for his “HOPE” portrait of Barack Obama which became the iconic image of the presidential campaign. On Saturday May 1st, Deitch projects will host an opening reception for May Day, an exhibition of some of Shepard Fairey’s new works. In May Day, Fairey captures the radical spirit of each of his subjects, using portraiture to celebrate some of the artists, musicians and political activists he most admires.
This exhibition will coincide with the official unveiling of Shephard Fairey’s mural on Houston and Bowery.
